A blend inspired by Edgar Allan Poe and his life and work in the great city of Richmond. Poe wrote for the the Southern Literary Messenger during part of his life in Richmond. The offices for that publication (see photograph provided above) were just a few blocks away from our café in Shockoe Bottom.
This is a blend for those who like things a bit more dark and mysterious -- like Poe himself. Our roasting style will always cause us to steer clear of anything that could be called a true "dark roast," (for a myriad of reasons); but, the House of Usher Blend features two coffees selected for their characteristic ability to take on beautifully rich notes with a bit of extra roast development time and sugar caramelization.
"Usher," as it is commonly shorthanded, has been able to please countless thousands of dark roast devotees without being anything close to burned and over-roasted. Its low levels of acidity and rich, sweet flavor profile make it our top seller.
